The following video relays information about the importance of leadership inside an organization and many positive ways to implement certain leadership styles/traits.
About Leadership
Leadership is the ability to guide or influence the behavior of others. It is the process by which an individual influences others to achieve a common goal. The primary function of leadership is to produce change and movement in an adaptive and constructive manner. Although leadership has been conceptualized many different ways, there are 4 key components that can be found within them all; (a) Leadership is a process, (b) leadership involves influence, (c) leadership occurs in groups, and (d) leadership involves common goals. Leadership is described as being a trait as well as a process. The trait perspective suggests that people are born with certain characteristics that make them leaders, separating them from those that do not possess these same traits and are not leaders. The process perspective believes that leadership involves the context of interactions between leaders and followers, which makes it available to everyone. This viewpoint shows that leadership can be observed in leader behaviors and then learned by others. These perspectives are associated with the 2 forms of leadership which are assigned and emergent. Assigned leaders relate more with the process perspective while emergent leaders are those primarily associated with the trait perspective. How individuals attain their power play a key role in their position and what type of leader they are.
